N714m ($2m) will be given to the Super Eagles of Nigeria by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after finishing the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the bronze medal.
Nigeria go to the semi-finals before they lost 2-1 to Algeria but still went ahead to beat Tunisia 1-0 in the third-place game to win the bronze medal for a record eighth time in AFCON history.
According to CAF who have revealed the prize money for all the countries that participated in the 24-team AFCON 2019, Nigeria will receive N 714m.
The Super Eagles will only get an agreed percentage while the rest will go to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Super Eagles managed five wins in AFCON 2019 and lost two games, the first in the group state to Madagascar and the semifinals to Algeria.
Odion Ighalo finished as the team and tournament’s top scorer while the likes of Kenneth Omeruo, Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi also scored a goal each.
Algeria who beat Nigeria in the semi-finals on their way to winning the title will get $4.5m while runners-up Senegal will get $2.5m.
Host Egypt who exited the tournament in the quarter-finals will receive N239m ($670000) along with the Republic of Morocco, Uganda, Mali, Guinea, DR Congo, Cameroon and Ghana who were also knocked out in the semi-finals.
Madagascar will pocket N285.6m ($800000) after their fairytale run to the quarterfinals. Ivory Coast, South Africa and the Republic of Benin will also get the same amount.
